Although the owners of this home built in 1942 had hoped to keep the existing cast iron plumbing, it was found to be rusted through and had to be removed. However, all the new plumbing was able to tie into the old stack location. The sloping interior walls that were accommodating the roof line became the perfect place for a linen/laundry storage built-in cabinet. One of the homeowners’ wishes was to create a “spa-like” feel for the space, which was accomplished using heated limestone floors with an inlaid tile “rug,” an open shower and a free-standing tub.
With the addition of 109 square feet to the space, a stackable washer/dryer, another of the owners’ wish list items, was placed into an alcove. Tip-out drawers were placed between the two pedestal sinks, chosen by the owner, and a partially recessed medicine cabinet allowed for more storage. A ledge/partial wall design at both sinks and the tub created space for candles and soaps, to help create the spa-like atmosphere.
